The Underground dragoon was built as a route for buckle downs to seek refuge in free states; these routes were used by the slaves to astound to the North and to Canada. The Underground Railroad was not subway or a railroad. The Underground Railroad received its raise because, either the mission had to be d unrivalled in a disguise or done in the nighttime. The Underground Railroad was the largest freedom movement and a highly secret one that transported the majority of relief valved slaves from the southern states to the normalityern United States and Canada. These systems or routes were set up to help slaves find family members and also work over a chance at freedom. Most of the routes traveled north and into Canada. Canada was a slaves ultimate destination due to the fact anti-slavery laws had been passed there. The Underground Railroad was not just live by blacks, but whites were also involved in the movement. It was grueling for a slave to escape the hardships of slavery. The slave first had to escape from their owner. In some cases, people would pose as a slave to help the slave travel north. These people were called conductors. The slaves locomote at night.

Once they had escaped the plantation and traveled at least ten to twenty miles to get to the station, the slaves waited while overnight messages got sent to the next station. The Underground Railroad cannot be viewed as solely a Black story. It is a universal story, found on the human need for individual freedom and is not restricted to any one skin colour. Blacks and whites worked together in an organization based on implicit trust and secrecy, where the terror of betrayal by whites or even another slave was a constant threat to escaping slaves and their supporters.
