The psychodynamic approach highlights the importance of the unconscious mind and of early experiences. Sigmund Freud (1856 1939) developed the psychodynamic theory. The theory states that there are three parts to our mind.
* The id (fully unconscious) contains drives and primary instincts. For example, a baby passes urine without thinking about it.
* The self-importance (mostly conscious) deals with external reality, so the child learns the rules of society. For example, to use the toilet.

Freud asserts that early childhood experiences are important to the phylogeny of a healthy adult personality. Freud proposed that childhood development took inject in five psychosexual point in times; Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latent and Genital.
